Simple steps for washing alpaca wool
Shake as much earth and grass out and pick out any leaves.
Get two basins of water. 
Fill one basin with warm-to-hot water and regular laundry liquid which is gentle on the fibre.
Put the fibre in the water, push it down (don’t agitate it too much!), and let the fibre soak for 20–30 minutes.
Fill the other basin with clean warm water. Let the fibre soak in that for 20–30 minutes. Repeat Steps 3–4 if you feel the fibre is still dirty.
Gently squeeze out any excess water and let it dry on a mesh surface. 
Once dry, brush or comb the fibres repeatedly until separated and fluffy.
It is now ready for felting and dyeing.
